Many people who have never been depressed think it is a condition of the mind. It is not. Major depression is a state of being that crushes the will, buries the emotions in a grave, and permeates the mind with a dense fog. And if that were not enough, it clamps the body in a steel vice and dampens the spirit. I know all this from personal experience and through others I have coached through their depression.
If you’ll remember my spectrum of depression – 5 for OK, 4 for mild to moderate depression, 3 for serious depression, 2 for major depression, and 1 for suicide watch – I’m speaking about a 1 or 2 in the paragraph above. A 3 has most of these symptoms also, but not as severe.
For those of you who have been in major depression or have been close enough to someone who has, I’d like to hear how this description resonates with your experience, as well as other symptoms. So you don’t have to identify yourself on this blog, send me an email at pday@pjdcoaching.com.
