For those of us who are depressed, grieving, in the grip of a terrible affliction, or other place of darkness, there comes a time when we must let go the reins of our own soul and accept help from others. Doctors, husbands, sisters, friends, even pets. “I’ll do it my way” is not a good option for someone who does not have the clarity of thinking or energy to find the right way.
Lean on those who love you. Put yourself in the hands of competent professionals. Let someone else make major decisions for you. As a coach for those in depression, I find the biggest barrier to overcoming depression is the stubbornness of those who don’t want to depend on anyone else, as if that were a sign of weakness. They want to be in control, a state of mind that keeps them in dark places. I find it so sad.
