“Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.” – Mark 15:15
“When Pilate heard this, he was even more afraid.” – John 19:8
Pilate knew Jesus was innocent, but he was afraid he might lose his position in this world if there were an insurrection, so he gave Jesus over to be crucified. He gave up the “then” (heaven) for the “now” (wealth and position on earth).
How is it with you? Are you living in a dark place, afraid your cancer will come back or you’ll be haunted by the specter of depression the rest of your life (it is so with me)? The “then” is eternity in heaven for those who are saved. The “now” is a brief life of uncertainty and suffering for those living in dark places. The “now” is but a spot in time; the “then” goes on and on and on…. Keep your eyes on the prize.
