233. God’s Hope

Hope in HandsWhere does affliction come from? We live in a fallen world “subjected to frustration” and in “bondage to decay.” (Romans 8:20,21). Don’t believe that God is punishing you. That’s Satan’s lie. Jesus says in John 16:33, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart. I have overcome the world.”

Where then does hope come from? God has said,
“Never will I leave you;
Never will I forsake you.”
So we say with confidence,
“The Lord is my helper: I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?”

Our hope is not in our own hands but in the hands of God. Paul says in 1 Thessalonians 1:3, “Your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” This was a hard lesson for me to learn, and I’m still learning it. I’m safe in the hands of God; I’m safe nowhere else.

About Patrick Day

In 2010, I escaped from four long years of deep, dark depression. This blog shares lessons I learned from those years as depicted in my autobiography - How I Escaped from Depression - as well as other insights about depression and anxiety that only come from someone who has gone through it. When you have a heart attack, you become an expert in heart attacks. When you have diabetes, you become an expert in that condition. As such, I am an expert in depression, with a four-year experiential degree and graduate studies in how to live a life going forward that keeps the ever-lurking Depression at a healthy distance.

    I agree! Expressed well……however, easier said than put into practice. Faith is essential.
