It is my birthday today, and I must quote a phrase so trite that it has largely disappeared from the vocabulary of most of us.
“Today is the first day of the rest of your life.”
What glorious news! The past eight years have not been kind to me – four years of major depression, a total shoulder replacement, prostate cancer, and two debilitating bouts of troubled sleep, to name a few afflictions.
But today is the first day of the rest of my life, and I have hope that I am entering a season of my life in which I will be healthy, wealthy, and wise (I could not resist another trite phrase) and a time when I will be so aligned with Jesus Christ that I will be like a branch on the vine.
